"Rockets" has become an annual event organised by Ravensworth Primary School and the CLC.
All local primary schools have been provided with Rokit kits. These kits allow a 2-litre plastic pop bottle to be fired into the air for a significant distance (over 50 metres).
The competition requires pupils to work cooperatively and to take responsible roles within their group for the design, development, testing and safety of their rocket. After perfecting their rocket design in school, groups come together for the competition - Which rocket will fly furthest?
Rockets are launched using standard launch conditions to ensure fair-testing.
In addition, pupils receive a pre-launch lecture on the history of rockets (see the Powerpoint file, Internet Explorer only).
To help with development of the rocket, pupils can use the Bottle Rocket Simulation Flash file to investigate the effects of volume of water and the presence/absence of a nose-cone. Download it here!(zipped file)
