Science

3D Heart

Hear the intake of breath as your pupils watch the 3D Heart presentation. Use their engagement to introduce or consolidate knowledge of the heart and circulatory system at KS3 and KS4.

Take it further by investigating factors affecting heart rate using our data-logging facilities and incorporating digital photography of the event. We have sufficient resources for pupils to work in pairs. Use ICT to engage pupils in presenting their work in any of the usual formats (Word, Publisher) or in a stand-alone PowerPoint presentation, which we have found to be particularly engaging.

Magic Planet

Engage your pupils in an understanding of the immensity of the Universe and the structure of our own Solar System using the Magic Planet and our wide range of IT resources including Multimedia Space School.

Multimedia Science School

Use this commercial software package as a teaching tool or as a
pupil research tool. Make use of our vast video collection (Media On Demand) and our excellent hardware and software facilities to allow the pupils to make and take away their own high quality revision work.

Microscopy

We have 30 digital microscopes for your pupils to use (15 Motic and 15 QX5 models). Demonstrate microscopy with our compound digital microscope. Demonstrate the use of our Proscope digital microscope in Crime Scene Investigation and Medicine. Work with us to develop crime scene scenarios to exploit pupils' interest and show science in a real and important context. We have support software in A Sense of Murder and A Sense of Mystery.

Try out our microscopy quiz 'Guess the Object'.

Datalogging

We have 25 sets of Data Harvest data-logging equipment and the following sensors:-

  • for use by pupils:-
  • temperature (3 per group)
  • light level
  • pH
  • pulse rate
  • voltage
  • light gates (2 per group)
  • push switch
  • for demonstration by staff:-
  • spirometer
  • CO2
  • infra-red
  • sound
  • electrocardiograph
  • oxygen
  • motion
  • timing mat

We also have a set of resources for teaching about Alternative Energy which can easily be incorporated into data-logging events:-

  • Photovoltaic Kit
  • Solar Water Heater Kit
  • Wind Turbine Kit

So, a wide variety of activities is on offer.

Krucible

Need to explain some difficult Physics ideas in an interactive and dynamic way? Then, Krucible might just fit the bill. It has simulations of many experiments which cannot be done easily in school covering the following topics:-

  • Waves
  • Forces
  • Energy
